Engineers Update

The loco performed well over the 2 diesel gala’s we recently attended. We had just a couple of faults with the loco. These were No 1 engine wanting to bring in all 3 diverts and the loco overloading at 1800 amps. The divert contactors have been adjusted and the overload relays were adjusted as well. The loco developed a small fuel leak on No 1 engine fuel filter system which will be sorted for Shildon.

The Koyli group would like to give a massive thanks to Kev Yeoman at the NYMR and to Paul Warren at the Wensleydale railway for their fantastic hospitality to the group during our visit to their railways and we look forward to more visits to their railways.

If anyone has photo’s of the loco working at both railways, please can you forward them to the webmaster.

We’re delighted to announce that we have reached our target of £25,000 to help restore Koyli for use on preserved lines.

Mainline Operation

Following Koyli’s successful restoration to heritage lines, the National Railway Museum has received many requests for the engine to be used for diesel galas and touring. In response to this enthusiasm, the Museum and volunteers have launched a new appeal to raise a further £25,000 to restore the engine to mainline operation.

KOYLI Update

No 2 engine had new injectors fitted last Sunday as we were to happy with the running of the engine. It now sounds a lot better. The straight air brake was adjusted in number 2 cab as it would only read 50 psi. It now is at the correct reading of 75 psi. New buffer beam air pipes were also fitted.

The loco is now ready for the NYMR diesel gala, it did around 15 trips up and down the yard at York the previous weekend with no faults showing up.

The convoy for the NYMR is now expected to leave on the Wednesday before the gala, but it can be subject to change.

KOYLI Update

KOYLI is going to Grosmont on the 12th and in the following week, KOYLI will be carrying out a number of test runs before the Diesel Gala on the 16th September.

Dates and times not yet available for the tests, but if you’re lucky you may spot her running between Grosmont and Pickering, whilst doing the test runs.

KOYLI Movements

55002 should be leaving York on Monday the 12th of September to attend the NYMR diesel gala from Friday the 16th through to Sunday the 18th. The plan is for it to do at least 2 round trips per day. On the Sunday at 1200 at Grosmont, the loco will be rededicated by the Rifles prior to working.

The following weekend, the loco should be visiting the Wensleydale railway for there diesel gala.

The weekend of the 8th and 9th of October is the Deltic 50 event at Shildon sponsored by the NRM. This will see 55022 and D9016 leave Bury, go to Barrow Hill to pick up D9009, then onwards to Leeming Bar to pick up 55002/19. Then onwards to Shildon. D9015 should arrive by road due to not able to travel on the network. All 7 Deltic’s should be on display for this.

The weekend after see’s the 5 Deltic event at the East Lancs railway. This is a 3 day event starting on the Friday the 14th of October staring 55002/19/22 D9009/16.

The cab gauges were removed last weekend for calibration due to a new requirement from the NYMR for all visiting diesel loco’s. Painting of the cabs also continued.

We regret to announce that 55002 will now not be attending the DRS open day, due to circumstances beyond our control.

Movement News

It is hoped that 55002 will be attending the DRS open day at Carlisle next Saturday the 16th of July. The loco is due to have a transit move exam on Wednesday of next week. It should then depart the NRM on the Friday morning.

After the open day, the loco will be moved to the NYMR by DRS for it to do test runs before the diesel gala.
